	Miami (River) The Miami River, which flows from its source near Miami International Airport to its mouth at Biscayne Bay, is on tap to be the next big mecca for high-rise condos, upscale lofts and office buildings. To reverse a century of neglect, the Florida Legislature in 1998 created the Miami River Commission to improve the 5.5-mile river and its surroundings. The Commission's comprehensive redevelopment plan calls for dredging and cleaning of the river, a continuous riverwalk along both banks of the river that connects to the Bayfront Park and Bayside Marketplace on the bay downtown, and retail, residential and office buildings. The plan has sparked a flurry of development along the banks of the river that will result in the renaissance of the Miami River. The outcome will be a complete rebirth of downtown residential life along the water. As the river’s revival takes hold, the area will be filled with people. Cafes, restaurants, parks and stores will line the tree-canopied riverwalks, while recreational boats and water taxis will shuttle people along the river to the bay. The transformation will give way to a vibrant riverside community, to the likes of Seine in Paris and San Antonio's Riverwalk in Texas.
